I have been on the South Beach Diet for the past three years. It really does work if you follow the book and really look at what you are eating. Though I have always been active I did start putting on the weight over the years. My cholesterol and triglycerides have been off the charts for over ten years (upwards of 900!!). After being on the diet for one year, I dropped 25 lbs and 400 points from my triglycerides! My boyfriend lost close to 60 lbs. The best of all I do not have the crashes in sugar and I do not need to carry food with me everywhere I go. I have a lot more energy and I love trying out new recipes.

Good luck to everyone out there. This is a great start to a healthy life style!

I have been using the South Beach Diet philosophy for about 3 years now. I started in college after gaining a freshman 15, and lost 30 lbs. in about 1 year. I have maintained the weightloss and am getting back on phase one this week because of my upcoming wedding. This is a great way to get back on track and also lose those nasty 5-10 vanity pounds that always seem to be coming on and off. I have lost 3 lbs. in the last 5 days and 1/2 inch off of my hips(where I need it most), I am hoping to drop around 6 so i'm on track. I am following everything except for lunch I am having a slim-fast optima shake. I don't have time in the morning to make salads and include protein etc. These shakes have 17g of sugar in them but the vitamins are good, and the protein in them keeps me from being hungry all afternoon. I plan on doing phase one for two weeks, then phase II for two weeks then back onto phase I for the final weeks b/f the wedding. Best of luck to all, this diet is the best I have found, it tops weight watchers, slim fast, and atkins etc.

I started South Beach 12 days ago, and have lost about 3 lbs so far. I was already eating pretty healthy, so I think phase 1 is taking longer with me. I have always had small, balanced, low glycemic foods through out the day. The major difference is not eating complex carbs with dinner. I do feel great, and I am telling myself to be patient in regards to losing lbs. A neighboor told me she did not see any results for two weeks, and on her third week lost a lot....but I keep reading about all these people that lose 10 lbs in a week! My husband has lost about 7lbs just from me being on it!!
